Prometheus did not create fire. Fire existed. The gods had it.
Prometheus took it and gave it to human beings and was chained to a rock and tortured for eternity for the transgression.
THE TRANSGRESSION WAS NOT THE FIRE.
THE TRANSGRESSION WAS THE REDISTRIBUTION OF POWER.
The gods were not angry because fire was dangerous.
THEY WERE ANGRY BECAUSE FIRE, IN HUMAN HANDS, MEANT HUMANS NO LONGER NEEDED THE GODS IN QUITE THE SAME WAY.
This is the nuclear question.
The bomb is not the point.
THE REDISTRIBUTION OF THE CAPACITY FOR SOVEREIGN SELF-DEFENSE IS THE POINT.
A country that can guarantee devastating retaliation against any agressor is not in the same negotiating position as one that cannot.
This is not complicated.
The empire understands it completely.
That is why it does not talk about fire safety when a country approaches the threshold.
