WHY the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) 2024 Summit in Kazakhstan is a Game Changer

Pepe Escobar’s article is full of essential information but FIVE items from the piece have to be absolutely underlined :

*1* President Xi Jinping’s declaration concerning the leading Russia-China strategic partnership : both should “strengthen comprehensive strategic coordination, oppose external interference and jointly maintain peace and stability” in Eurasia.

Once again, that’s Russia-China as leaders of Eurasia integration and the drive towards a multi-nodal world (nodal with an “n”).

*2* President Vladimir Putin’s declaration : the “commitment of all member states to forming a fair world order based on the central role of the UN and commitment of sovereign states to mutually beneficial partnership.”

*3* “To gradually phase out the military presence of external powers” in Eurasia.

*4* To establish alternatives to Western-controlled economic mechanisms, expanding the use of national currencies in settlements, and establishing independent payment systems.

*5* Belarus has been admitted as the tenth full member of the SCO after India & Pakistan in 2017 and Iran in 2023. The others being China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan.
